To help Syrian refugee households successfully access education and integrate into Turkish society, LIFTcities conceives adequate preparation of Turkish public schools and Syrian children and parents. In the period February – June 2016, in a joint venture with Turkish education consultants, a concept has been developed in which schools’ management, teachers and counsellors are enabled to develop an inclusive school practice that welcomes Syrian children, in line with the approach of the Positive Behavior Support. Meanwhile, Syrian children and associated parents will receive Turkish language skills and needed basic psycho-social support. This approach will be piloted in school year 2016-2017 in one of Istanbul districts with high refugee numbers. 3 Pilot schools have been selected, in close cooperation with the district ministry of Education.
